Hepatitis B Surface Antibody (Anti-HBs) Test

📌 Price: HK$450 per person

📃Report: Results available within 7-10 working days

👩🏼‍🔧 Result explained by healthcare professionals

⏱️ Quick and efficient process – from registration to blood collection takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

 No fasting required

Test Includes:

  1. Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg):
  • The presence of HBsAg indicates that the person is infectious.
  1. Hepatitis B Surface Antibody (HBsAb):
  • The presence of anti-HBs is generally interpreted as indicating recovery and immunity from hepatitis B virus infection.

Purpose of Checkup:

To determine whether you have been infected with the Hepatitis B virus (surface antigen) and whether your body has antibodies. Even if you have previously received the Hepatitis B vaccine, antibodies may have diminished over the years. For safety, it is advisable to undergo a blood test and possibly get re-vaccinated.

Hepatitis B is a disease caused by a filterable virus that can cause the destruction of a large number of liver cells and impair liver function. Some infected individuals may become lifelong carriers of the virus, with a potential risk of developing chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, or even liver cancer.

Statistics:

❌ Hepatitis B and C affect 325 million people worldwide and cause 1.4 million deaths annually.
❌ It is the second deadliest infectious disease after tuberculosis, with hepatitis virus infections being 9 times more common than HIV.
❌ Hepatitis can be prevented and treated, and Hepatitis C can even be cured. However, over 80% of hepatitis patients lack access to prevention, testing, and treatment services.
😱 Approximately 8% (about 600,000 people) of Hong Kong’s population are carriers of the Hepatitis B virus, with a 1% annual chance of developing liver cancer.
😱 Hepatitis B carriers can be asymptomatic, but the virus can cause chronic liver inflammation, leading to liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and liver cancer over time.
Additionally, the Hepatitis B virus can cause liver cells to mutate and form cancer cells.

Recommendations:

✅ Patients should undergo regular Hepatitis B-related health checks, including blood tests for liver enzymes and liver ultrasound scans to detect any liver tissue roughness or tumors.

Transmission Routes:

The Hepatitis B virus is found in large quantities in the body fluids of patients, primarily in blood, amniotic fluid, semen, and vaginal secretions. It is transmitted through mother-to-child transmission, body fluid contact, or sexual contact.

Some patients may become carriers with mild symptoms and unknowingly transmit the virus to their partners and offspring.

Effects:

Fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, and yellow skin and eyes (jaundice). Carriers are at high risk for getting liver disease, liver failure, and even liver cancer. Many people will get better and become immune for life. Some will recover but remain as carriers who can pass the virus to other people. There is no cure for hepatitis B, but treatment can sometimes decrease the amount of virus in the blood and body secretions.
